History
The Victoria dam, completed in 1985 as the centrepiece of the Mahaweli scheme, flooded the old town of Teldeniya and created the great reservoir that now defines this valley east of Kandy. New Teldeniya and Digana were built for the displaced, and the lake, its viewpoints, and golf resort now draw visitors.
