History
Nuwara Eliya was laid out by the British from the 1840s as a hill sanatorium and grew into 'Little England', complete with racecourse, golf course, trout streams, and half-timbered houses. At 1,868 metres it is Sri Lanka's highest town, the centre of its finest high-grown tea districts.
