History

Dikwella is an old south-coast fishing and coir town best known for the 50-metre seated Buddha of the Wewurukannala temple, the island's largest. The neighbouring horseshoe cove of Hiriketiya was a sleepy palm bay until the 2010s, when surfers turned it into one of Sri Lanka's trendiest beach hideouts.
