History
Talawakele grew as a tea-trading town on the upcountry railway in the heart of the Dimbula valley, and since 1925 it has housed the Tea Research Institute at St Coombs estate, the scientific home of Ceylon tea. Devon and St Clair's falls — 'the Bride of Sri Lanka' — plunge past the town's tea slopes.
