History

One of Sri Lanka's oldest towns, Badulla guards the eastern edge of the hill country and is home to the Muthiyangana temple, held to mark one of the Buddha's visits to the island. Under the British it became the terminus of the upcountry railway and an administrative centre for the surrounding tea districts.
