History
Koggala's lake and coast were commandeered as a Royal Air Force flying-boat base in World War II, and the town is the birthplace of writer Martin Wickramasinghe, whose folk museum preserves southern village life. Neighbouring Ahangama is famous for its stilt fishermen and has become the surf-and-cafe heart of the Galle coast.
