History
Mirissa was a quiet fishing village until travellers found its crescent beach in the 1980s and 90s; whale-watching boats first sailed from its harbour in 2008 after blue whales were confirmed feeding off Dondra Head. It is now one of the world's most accessible places to see blue and sperm whales.
